United Way of Southern Nevada named NV Energy its Initiative Partner of the Year at their annual Community Campaign Finale 2007. The award recognizes NV Energy's outstanding support and their unique approach to addressing a persistent emerging issue in our community.
In 2003, NV Energy formed a partnership, Project REACH (Relief through Energy Assistance to prevent Customer Hardships) with United Way of Southern Nevada to address the needs of our community's most vulnerable: seniors, the medically frail and military personnel deployed to a war zone.
"Partners like NV Energy have had a positive impact in our community," said Dan Goulet, President and CEO of United Way of Southern Nevada. Because of NV Energy's Project REACH program, over 950 local families have received energy assistance. NV Energy rightfully deserves the 2006-2007 Initiative Partners of the Year Award."
NV Energy launched Project REACH with a contribution of $100,000 in 2003, which grew to a contribution of $300,000 in 2006. Additionally, a gift of $100,000 was granted by The Celine Dion Foundation after she learned of the critical needs of a frail population in our community and how Project REACH continues to address those needs.
"NV Energy has committed resources to support Project REACH because of our belief in giving back to the community," said Doretha Graham-Easler, community relations manager, NV Energy Company. "This award recognizes the great cross-channel communication and teamwork required by all organizations to help our community's most vulnerable."
In addition to the direct financial assistance, which is funded by Nevada Power Company shareholders and not by the utility's customers, NV Energy Company and its employees have collectively contributed more than $6.2 million to United Way of Southern Nevada over the past 20 years through the company's annual United Way employee campaign and initiatives to help our customers.
