Volunteerism

As a corporation, our volunteer outreach is designed to address specific community needs and concerns. Employees and their families help with community needs and lend support to key community efforts. A true commitment to our communities goes beyond monetary aid. That's why the community is familiar with the faces of NV Energy employees. Each year, employees volunteer more than 15,000 hours of community service to local charities throughout southern Nevada. We support endeavors that are vital to the public's welfare and important to community's vitality.

Our Employee Volunteer Program has two main goals. First, the program helps to increase the Company's involvement in the community. Second, the program provides a service to employees who want to get involved in their communities, but may not know where to start.

The Employee Volunteer Program makes the connection with community organizations and works out the logistics so that employees can jump right in and get started. Our volunteers help organizations, agencies and individuals in the community through the commitment of time, energy and talent.

Employees who want to volunteer for projects that are not sponsored by the Company can be matched with a specific community organization that meets their interests. The program is ultimately creating change -- change in our communities, and change in the lives of our employees.

Employee Volunteer Council

A key component of our Volunteer program is the Employee Volunteer Council (EVC). The EVC consists of nine employees from diverse backgrounds who coordinate and lead year-round volunteer activities. In addition, the EVC is a decision-making team that evaluates Company-wide volunteer opportunities presented to NV Energy. The purpose of the Council is to:

They are a talented and dynamic group of individuals who take an active role in mobilizing volunteers
in an organized effort to assist local nonprofits.

Employee Grant Programs

Grant Programs Help Employees Reach out to the Community

We do more than just encourage our employees to volunteer in their communities. We stand behind them with financial support. In addition, we provide opportunities for our employees to support their communities and the issues they care about. The Dollars-for-Doers and Community Outreach Grants programs provide corporate funds for projects of employees. The purpose of the grants is to engage more employees in community service and use resources more effectively by involving them in the selection and completion of community services projects.

Dollars-for-Doers Program

The purpose of the Dollars for Doers Program is to encourage individuals to volunteer personal time to their favorite qualifying organization, and have the benefiting organization receive a grant on behalf of the employee. The gift is based on hours of service. Employees who contribute at least 10 hours of volunteer time to qualifying organizations can have up to $100 donated to the nonprofit organization of their choice. The minimum gift is $100, up to the maximum of $350. Since the program recognizes the importance of the gift of time, it does not require that the volunteer contribute financially to be eligible for recognition in this manner.

Community Outreach Grants

The goal of the grant program is to improve a nonprofit agency, making the quality of life better for everyone in the community. The grant encourages volunteerism by providing corporate funds for charitable projects of NPC employees. The program pays up to $2,500 for supplies and materials for one-time, hands-on projects for an eligible nonprofit organization, on behalf of a employee volunteer who completes a project which makes a dramatic improvement in the nonprofit's operations and/or programs.

Community and Civic Leadership

Nonprofit organizations need people with strong business and leadership skills to be more efficient and effective. At NV Energy, we depend on our leadership for success. We encourage individual participation from our management team to share their knowledge and expertise to help strengthen nonprofit agencies. We look for ways to develop our management team through leadership development training, seminars, and workshops to enhance business relationships.
